LEl Centro Educativo Williuma Penn offers many benefits:

K-12 Program

Preschool Education

Preschool education in Honduras, including a kindergarten program, offers young children a well-rounded foundation for learning through fun activities.

The programs we support at the William Penn School include:

High School Vocational Education

Provides practical training in health, computer, and accounting fields. Health students gain experience in clinics, computer students develop essential digital skills, and accounting students practice real-world financial tasks

Music Program

Funds the William Penn band by providing instruments, uniforms, and professional instruction. Students develop musical talents, confidence, and teamwork through performances and practice.

Computer Lab

Offers access to modern computers, internet, and training in essential digital tools like word processing and spreadsheets, preparing students for academic and professional success.

Preschool Education

Focuses on early childhood learning with resources like books, toys, and trained teachers, helping young children develop literacy, numeracy, and social skills.

Parent Education Programs

Conducts workshops to teach parents how to support their children’s learning at home, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment for student success.

Support for Families in Need:

For example, we are currently helping a family that lost their father to COVID-19. We provide financial support for their two children, covering expenses such as books, supplies, uniforms, and graduation fees. This assistance costs about $1,000 per year. Additionally, a college student received a $10,000 scholarship toward her education in the U.S., where she is studying to become a physical therapist.

Impact on the Community:

Many students who have attended El Centro Educativo William Penn have come back to testify that the school kept them from joining local gangs. This demonstrates the lasting impact our programs have on transforming lives and keeping youth on a positive path.

Current Needs for Growth:

Gym/Hall:

The school in Tegucigalpa needs a multi-purpose hall/gym for activities such as graduations, parent sessions, and physical education, with an estimated cost of $60,000. Infrastructure Repairs: Part of the building needs a new roof, ceiling, flooring, electrical and plumbing work, as well as safe stair access, which will require an additional $40,000.

Safety Improvements:

As the school is located in one of Tegucigalpa’s poorest neighborhoods, safety is a priority. We aim to enhance security with proper fencing and gates, costing approximately $10,000.

New Computer Lab:

The school also needs a new computer lab with 25 computers, including air conditioning to protect the equipment, at an estimated cost of $15,000.

Recent Developments:

Recently, we purchased land next to Centro Educativo William Penn, where we built six classrooms, paved safe walkways, planted gardens, repaired broken computers in the lab, replaced doors, and added more seating, all at a cost of over $120,000. This community has seen a significant decrease in gang activity due to the school’s efforts in educating the community for 30 years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the school almost closed its doors, but through the foundation, we were able to continue our mission.

The community is in an area with poor roads and lacks space for children to play. Additionally, we aim to provide clean water to further enhance the well-being of the children and families we serve.

Empowering the Youth of Honduras:

Our goal is to offer high-quality education to the youth of Honduras, giving them the skills to rise above challenges like poverty and illiteracy. We foster leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving, preparing them to become the next generation of leaders in their communities.

Supporters Needed: To sustain and grow our efforts, we rely on the generosity of supporters who share our vision.
